Eagle Drive In Joplin, Missouri
As I have done so many times in the past, I ruined someone's plans that they had for my birthday. I had never been to The Eagle Drive In in Joplin so my parents were planning on treating me to a great burger. They had been a couple of times and wanted me to experience the place as well. I didn't know this so one evening I told my wife that we were heading to Joplin to go have a burger. I told mom and dad and mom said, "Oh! We were going to take you there next week for your birthday." I told her that I would gladly go back and try another one of their many gourmet burgers.
On the first trip, I had their #6 Burger which is ground elk with Malbec wine and clover honey and topped with caramelized onions and Swiss cheese. My dear wife had the Lamb Juicy Lucy which is ground lamb decked out with Greek stuff like feta cheese and tzatziki sauce. She reluctantly allowed me to sample it and it was as fantastic as mine was. And yes, I let her try mine as well. We both got fries and they come with your choice of two out of the six or seven dipping sauces that they have on the menu.
On the second trip, my daughter decided that we should get an appetizer. She wanted the calamari. It came out and the little squid bits were lightly battered and very tasty. This time I opted for the eponymous burger, The Eagle Burger. It's pretty basic but it comes with a fried quail egg on it. And, being the connoisseur that I am...or maybe the piggy that I am, I sampled my daughter's ostrich burger, which was the daily special, and my wife's Tree Hugger sub, one of the Drive In's vegetarian offerings. The ostrich burger was good and the Tree Hugger sub was excellent.
A couple of things that I haven't mentioned yet are the friendly staff and their beer selection. The guys that have helped us dine on some super tasty sandwiches are some of the nicest lads I've seen in a long time. Much thanks to them for making our visits good ones. The other joy is the beer. They seem to always have about eight different beers on tap. The first night I had a Kona and the next time, I had a Missouri beer called Boulevard. Some of you may already be acquainted with the KC brewery. Love them too! The Eagle Drive In is a little pricier than your everyday burger joint. But the care they take in getting quality ingredients and the craftsmanship of each dish makes it well worth the extra couple of bucks. I'm definitely going to go back to the Eagle Drive In. Maybe I'll see you there! Go check out their FB page. It has their current menu on it. A quick side note: The guy that owns the Eagle also owns Instant Karma Hot Dogs in downtown Joplin. That's another place you should go. I reviewed it too. Instant Karma Link! Here's the link to the Eagle FB page - www.facebook.com/The-Joplin-Eagle-Drive-In
