Matisse: In His Time
Presented by the Oklahoma City Museum of Art
Today was a good day. I took my wife, daughter, and her boyfriend to Oklahoma City to visit an art exhibit. It was the show 'Matisse: In His Time' at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. This very impressive show is this collection's only North American stop. Right here in Oklahoma, we were fortunate enough to see masterpieces by Henri Matisse, Pablo Picasso, George Braque, Amadeo Modigliani, and so many more. All of these works came to visit us from the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Apparently, a cool guy from Oklahoma knows a cool guy from France and they decided that rare pieces of art would look good hanging at the OKCMOA. (I would imagine it was more in depth than that, but I don't have the full story with names and dates, so that's my recap of the events. :D) I'm so glad they had a meeting and figured out that we would be very appreciative of the collection. I talked to people that had driven here from Kansas City, New Orleans, and Dallas and that was just a few people I happened to talk to on one day of this show!
We were allowed to snap a few pictures of the works if we didn't have flashes on our cameras. This afforded me the opportunity to get a few of my favorite pieces that I'm passing on to you in the gallery below. Keep in mind that I was so excited about this exhibit that sometimes I was shaking and the photos turned out a little less than crisp and clear. I still included them. Why not? (I have included professionally taken photos at the bottom so you can see these works in their proper, non-shaky handed beauty.) This show is staying up through September the 18th and I can't stress enough how special it is that they're here in Oklahoma. They are letting in groups of viewers every fifteen minutes so you would do well to reserve your time slot on line and show up with your printed tickets. Here's a link to the site - www.okcmoa.com. Get on line. Reserve your spot. Go to there. Look at amazing art. If you can't go to Paris, then go see the next best thing because Paris has come to us. Happy viewing.
