Katerina Belkina
It's no secret that I think art has the potential to be vitally important. When I see a great artist, I can't get enough of their work. I want them to do the impossible task of creating more work than I could see if I spent a whole day looking. When I found Katerina Belkina's work, I was immediately thrilled by it and wanted to see it all. I was so pleased to find such innovative photography. Upon closer examination, I noticed surrealist aspects to her work that I had overlooked the first time I saw them. This technically puts her in the category of altered photography, but since I hate giving labels to brilliance, I will just say she's a powerful artist. A lot of her works evoke the concept of the dynamic woman. In the spirit of Frieda Kahlo, she includes herself in many of her pieces and brings to each one beauty, strength, and sensuality. Somehow these pieces display both stark reality and wonderful fantasy. The rich colors and minute detail had me staring agape trying to figure out how someone could be so talented. What an amazing woman.
Katerina was born in Russia, but now resides in Berlin. She has won awards and had exhibits all over the place and deservedly so. If you've been lucky enough to attend one of her shows, I'm jealous. If you own one of her pieces, I'm super jealous. But there's hope, because I've included a site where one can purchase one of her works. Below, you can see for yourself what I witnessed as I was perusing the internet. I love all her work but my personal favorites are her homages to artists like Modigliani and Klimpt. So great! You can see more work at her website www.belkina.ru. You can also purchase her works from Artsy at www.artsy.net/artist/katerina-belkina.
